Video screenings: Lowrider Bellydance (2004) + Voice Over (2006)
Fri 12.6. – Sun 14.6.+ Wed 17.6.– Sun 21.6. 10:00 – 22:00 h
12.06.-21.06.2009

Lowrider Bellydance (2004) Video (3.30 min, Loop)

In "Lowrider Bellydance" boys with toy cars perform one of the most feminine of all dance forms to oriental pop music. What they unleash with their remote controls is reminiscent less of classical belly dance than beetles mating, or the inadvertently comical displays of macho power poses.
Voice over (2006) Video (14 min, Loop)

"Voice over" creates an almost meditative space: a harmonica held from a moving car plays its own tones, rain produces rhythm on a drum - the instruments become autonomous objects. Turkish city kids sing in the dark green night the melancholic ballads of their forefathers: "I implore you, small gazelle, stay away from the cloudy Urfa mountains ..." they ardently sing songs about cultural codes they no longer share.

BERLIN 2000
BERLIN 2000 is a group exhibition of nearly 40 international artists working in Berlin at the time of the wall’s collapse in 1989 to the year 2000. The exhibition examines the individual careers, collaborative collectives, and the underground social scene of bars, clubs and alternative exhibition spaces that these artists created in support of their artistic ideals.
